Just four days into training camp, the Saints have made their first major cut of the season.

On Monday ESPN reported that New Orleans released wide receiver Cameron Meredith. Meredith was looking to make a return from a devastating knee injury he suffered in 2017.

The 26-year-old signed a two-year deal $9.8 million deal in 2018, but agreed to a pay cut in March to remain with the team. The move was a surprise to Meredith who said the release was unexpected.

Meredith played in just six games last season for the Saints before being placed on injured reserve due to nagging soreness and swelling in his knee.

The veteran pass catcher hopes for an opportunity with another team. Meanwhile the Saints are still dealing with the holdout of star receiver Michael Thomas.
