Broncos release veteran K Matt Prater

Matt Prater is nearing the end of his four game suspension, but he will not be returning to the Broncos to play once it is complete.

The team announced Prater's release on Friday.

Prater is one of the strongest and most accurate kickers in the NFL. He holds the record for the longest field goal ever made at 64 yards. He is likely to find a new team fairly quickly.

Denver decided to go with rookie Brandon McManus, who was traded from the Giants in late August. McManus has made all his field goals in the Broncos first three games.
