Panthers DE Greg Hardy on Voluntary Leave

Carolina Panthers announced on Wednesday that defensive end Greg Hardy voluntarily agreed to go on the Exempt/Commissioner's Permission list. Hardy won't be allowed to participate in team activities or games until his legal issues are resolved.

General manager Dave Gettleman said that Hardy will be allowed at the team facility.

Hardy was convicted July 15 of assault on a female and communicating threats after the victim said he threw her in a bathtub and onto a sofa covered in guns before threatening to kill her. His appeal trial is set for Nov. 17.
The NFLPA released a statement on Wednesday in regards to the case:
"Today, Greg Hardy made a decision to take a voluntary leave of absence to resolve his pending legal issue. The NFLPA and NFL worked with Greg, his representatives and the Carolina Panthers on this matter. We support this decision and hope the best for him and his family."
Hardy will still continue to be paid his weekly salary of $770,588.23 while on the exempt list.
