The Broncos were concerned about wide receiver Wes Welker starting on Sunday after suffering his third concussion in 10 months. Now the issue is moot as Welker has been suspended.
Welker has been suspended the first four games of the season for violating the league's performance enhancing drug policy. Sources say the drug was amphetamines.
The positive test came in May and was appealed. The appeal happened two weeks ago and parties were notified today that he lost the appeal.
Welker will miss games against Indianapolis, Kansas City, Seattle and Arizona. He will not make his season debut until Week 6 against the Jets in New York.
The four-game suspension for Welker will cost him $705,882 in base salary.
