The Chiefs opened their 2014 with a loss to the Titans at home. The bigger loss, however, came on their defensive line.
Chiefs announced that linebacker Derrick Johnson and defensive end Mike DeVito both ruptured their Achilles tendon and are out for the season.
The loss of Johnson is significant for the Chiefs. He is one of the leaders on the defense and his presence on the interior of the line is essential.
Josh Mauga and James-Michael Johnson will be used to replace Johnson this season.
Chiefs also signed former Denver Broncos defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson to replace DeVito. Vickerson is a seven year veteran who spent his last four seasons with the Broncos.
Vickerson was cut by the Broncos prior to the start of this season. He will not have the opportunity to face his former team on Sunday when the Chiefs face the Broncos in Denver.
