Saturday was a traumatic day for the Kansas City Chiefs and the football community at large. Linebacker Javon Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend. He then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and shot and killed himself in front of GM Scott Pioli and Head Coach Romeo Crennel. The Chiefs later took a vote to play Sunday's game against the Panthers which they went on to win. Despite the win, Chiefs are still reeling from the horror of Belcher's actions.
Some have used this tragedy as a way to take a stance on gun control. Whether gun control would have stopped this tragedy from occurring is not the issue. Some have used this a stance against domestic violence. Reports are there is no history of domestic violence in Belcher's past so we cannot say this is the issue either. Details have emerged now that Belcher and his girlfriend were having financial issues. On the day in question an arguement ensued over a concert his girlfriend attended with the end result being the demise of both of them.
We may never know why Belcher went to such an extreme measure or what if anything could have been done to counter it. What we do know is there is an orphaned 3 month old baby girl who will never know her parents. This is the saddest and most heartbreaking part of the entire tragedy.
